The Local Area
Disserth and Trecoed lies between the Brecon Beacons, Elan Valley and Radnor Forest.
It is adjacent to the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells. Other historic
towns are within very easy reach. The area is noted for it's scenic beauty, being
bordered by the Wye valley.
Location
Follow village signs to Howey from the A483 (trunk road). The community
lies adjacent to the spa town of Llandrindod Wells and within a few minutes of Builth
Wells.
Landscape and Wildlife
The area lies within the Radnor Environmentally Sensitive Area, and is bordered by the
exceptional beauty of the River Wye, a site of special scientific interest. The
public have access to a local wildlife trust nature reserve and national nature reserve,
and is an ideal location for studying wildflowers and birds.
Outdoor Activities
The area is ideally suited for many outdoor activities, including cycling,
walking, fishing and bird watching. The Welsh National Cycle route passes through
the community, and the Wye Valley walk is very close by. Two golf courses lie within
a mile of the community.
The Local Economy
The local economy is based on farming and tourism. This mostly farm based
area is largely concerned with sheep farming due to the area's rural position.
