The area is to the West of Llandrindod Wells and consists of a mainly rural area in the upper reaches of the Wye Valley.  It is famous for the fine fishing and walking as well as the beautiful unspoilt scenery and spectacular countryside.  To the West are the Cambrian mountains, to the East is Radnor Forest and to the South are the Black mountains.  The Elan Valley is only 8 miles away.

Llanyre is on the A4081, 2 miles from Llandrindod Wells.  Newbridge is on the A470 trunk road between Builth Wells and Rhayader, 5 miles from Llandrindod Wells.  The A470 is the main road linking North and South Wales.
