nantmel1.jpg (4573 bytes) Looking from a vantage point you can see the village of Nantmel close to the main A44. This view is looking East towards Crossgates. The old road in the foreground is now largely free of traffic, the new main road to the right of the picture having been built in the 1970s.

A New Community Building for Nantmel?
There is no village hall in the community, and most community gatherings either
take place in Nantmel School, or have to be held at venues outside the
community.  Nantmel Community Council has taken a lead in arranging meetings to
discuss whether a new community building could be a possibility.  So far an
initial feasibility study  has been undertaken and a number of meetings
arranged.

The Church of St Cynllo sits on the side of the hill, a steep climb up from the village. nantmel2.jpg (5372 bytes)

Millennium project
The Community Council have agreed to support a project that will record the
history of Nantmel, focusing mainly on events that have taken place in the
community over the last 100 years, and recording people's reminiscences of
living in the community at various period during the century.  The school will
be inviting older members of the community to come and talk to small groups of
children about life in the "old days", and another part of the work will be to
make a photographic record of the community as it is now.  Video and audio
recordings will be made on CD-ROM and also published as part of an Internet
site.

A public meeting to discuss how to take work forwards will be held in the
School at 7.00pm on Thursday 15th April.
